Hi, my name is Joy Castle. I am the middle school English teacher at Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School. This is my eleventh year to teach at EDS. I attended McNeese State University where I received a Masters Degree in Education. My certification includes grades 1 - 8 and high school English.

I taught for several years then left the profession when I had my children. Both of my children have benefited from the wonderful environment here at EDS. My oldest son, Andrew, is an EDS graduate and is now attending Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. My youngest son, Nicholas, is in the seventh grade here. When we visited the school when Andrew was ready to start kindergarten, I left saying that if I taught again, I would want to teach here. Luckily, when Nicholas was two and ready to start a position became available.

I love teaching for many reasons. I believe that it is important to teach the whole child. I feel a responsibility to take care of the children both spiritually and educationally. I want the students to be comfortable in my room and with me so that we can achieve as much as possible. My favorite way to teach is to take advantages of teachable moments.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love to cook and work in my yard. I enjoy doing “projects” and love making new things.
